Innovation in teaching in pharmacy profession_An essay by Sukritha R.

INTRODUCTION:

Pharmacy includes many subjects like Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology,

Pharmaceutical Analysis etc. Since pharmacy deals with many vast subjects, it is important for

graduating pharmacists to be aware of his important role played in the society. We pharmacist

are directly connected in helping to cure one’s life in case of their bad health conditions and

sufferings that one’s body undergo during the life time. The beginning strong foundation starts

from proper educating system, to improvise the knowledge of the students.

INNOVATION IN TEACHINGS

Here , I am stating few subjects which students feel difficulty in studying, this might help

students understand the subjects which have compilation of many concepts to be studied and

understood, there is difficulty in understanding subjects like pharmaceutical chemistry,

pharmacognosy etc.

If students get an option to expose in solving questions often in the format of MCQs online, it

would be very helpful to be thorough in knowing and remembering many concepts of the

subjects.

For examples:

1) Turmeric is a rhizome obtained from ?

b) Achyranthes aspera Linn

c) Curcumin longa

d) Solanum xanthocarpum,

Same as in case of subjects dealing with chemistry, while solving this kind of repeated similar

questionnaire, students might definitely get the knowledge about many concepts of subjects even

if they have not given time to study about it. Even if there is a system which involves MCQ tests

conducted in colleges in intervals of academy.

PHARMACOGNOSY:

Knowing certain medicinal plants with live view is very much needed, So that students don’t

have to read the subject only for exam purpose. If students take this initiative step of growing

one medicinal plant each different species will be helpful for the future, not to destroy and to

have a good awareness about their medicinal use

BIOCHEMISTRY:

There are many Enzymatic cycles to be studied, it is very difficult to remember the cycles so,

if seminar is conducted on these topics so that every student will get a chance to understand how

does the cycle of enzymes work in body, if not students only try to by heart the cycle till exam

and forget once it’s over. So seminar conducted mainly on topics of enzymatic cycles in

biochemistry may help students to understand well.

PHARMACOLOGY:

In case of pharmacology, the vast subject which has to be studied very perfect even by the

lecturer before conducting class .An elaborate explanation, Teacher - Student interaction after

every class , Weekly presentation regarding any topic will give a good view in understanding

the subject.

JURISPRUDENCE:

An main subject of pharmacy, this has to be thought in such a way that all the schedules are at

the tip of mouth. All the rules and role of pharmacist, his responsibility, discipline in running a

pharmacy in the society is to be very well known.

A visit to the pharmacy for the view of students to gain the information regarding Schedule-Y

is important. This would also be like a trail view of how pharmacist should run his pharmacy. in

society.

To have a good knowledge about Drug inspector and their duties specified elaborately to know

their Main role in the pharmacy field.

When students are exposed to activities instead of only hearing to lecture, can make

good difference in understanding the subjects well. These are few innovative ways which I feel

can make some changes in students activity during their academy; this can help students acquire

not only knowledge but applied knowledge.

Education is not just a matter of gaining knowledge by listening and learning.

Education is a matter of applying the knowledge which is gained through listening and learning.

The essence of having a good knowledge is not complete until it is applied.
