Drug maker MSD hit by ransomware, Indian website down

“We believe we have contained the problem and are working on recovery plans with our external IT partners,” MSD said in its latest update. US drug maker Merck, known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, the maker of top-selling diabetic drug Januvia and cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil, among others, said its computer network was compromised on June 27 as part of a global cyber-attack. The website of MSD India was still down at the time of filing the story, while its global website is up and running. “ We believe we have contained the problem and are working on recovery plans with our external IT partners ,” MSD said in its latest update. “ We also are cooperating with global cyber security agencies given the scope of the attack ,” the statement added. Desh Bandhu Gupta: The humble professor

Numbers are just an outcome of the work done ,” Desh Bandhu Gupta, the founder chairman of pharmaceutical company Lupin, had told Forbes India during an interaction in October 2016. The self-made billionaire passed away in Mumbai on June 26 at the age of 79. Gupta’s professional life is a testament to what a hardworking, first generation entrepreneur can achieve, and benefit society in the process. The legacy that Gupta, fondly known as DBG, has left behind is the world’s fourth largest generics pharma company by market value and sixth largest in terms of sales, which earned $2.55 billion in revenue in FY17. Dragons's Den_Competition for researchers

1. Dragons' Den: Dragons's Den is a competition whose purpose is to encourage young researchers to move forward in their fields of interest. The winners receive a substantial prize to support their future research work.  2. Eligibility: This contest is open to students and researchers with maximum age of 35 and no permanent academic position. The proposer must be properly registered with IUCr 2017 ( 24th Congress & General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography 2017 from 21 – 28 August 2017 ) – i.e. he she must have an Access Key, and all registration fees paid.  3. Submitting a Proposal: Eligible researchers must submit a proposal by filling an online form. The proposal must be for future research work and not for research work already undertaken or ongoing or presented at the IUCr 2017 Congress.
