Pfizer Inc. announced the launch of its Vaccines Division’s Centers of Excellence Network, a global programme of collaborations with academic institutions to conduct real-world epidemiologic research to accurately identify and measure the burden of specific vaccine-preventable diseases and potentially evaluate vaccine effectiveness affecting adults. Over 1,700 employees were working in these two facilities US pharma major Pfizer Inc has decided to shut down its manufacturing units in Irungattukottai, Chennai and Aurangabad, Maharashtra, which came to it through an acquisition of injectables manufacturer Hospira in 2015. Over 1,700 employees working in these two factories are expected to be impacted by the decision. While the company is shutting down the two facilities, plans are afoot to expand the Vizag manufacturing facility, which also came as part of the acquisition. Pfizer said that it conducted a thorough evaluation of the Irungattukottai and Aurangabad sites and concluded that due to a significant fall in product demand, manufacturing at these sites is not viable. “ As a result, Pfizer is announcing that both the Aurangabad and Irungattukottai sites will immediately cease manufacturing with the intention to exit both sites as soon as possible in 2019. Pfizer and IIT-Delhi on Tuesday said they have launched an incubation accelerator initiative at the later's campus for Indian startup companies as well as individuals. Christened "The Pfizer IIT-Delhi Innovation and IP Program ", it comprises two components. For innovators seeking comprehensive support to translate their healthcare ideas into patents, the programme will provide two years of residential incubation at IIT-Delhi, funding of up to Rs.50 lakh for each innovator, mentoring support from IIT-Delhi's faculty, access to infrastructure and prototyping laboratories, IP search and filing services, guidance from Pfizer's global experts, and access to venture capitalists and other industry linkages. For innovators who already have a ready proof of concept and are seeking to obtain a patent, the programme will provide access to IP attorneys and services and cover the patent fee.
