Hyderabad-based research scientist Dr Prathama S. Mainkar bagged the OPPI Woman Scientist Award

Taking inspiration from Marie Curie’s life, Hyderabad based Dr Prathama S. Mainkar has dedicated her life to research. She is the Senior Principal Scientist of CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and was recently awarded the Woman Scientist Award by the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI). OPPI represents research-based pharmaceutical companies in India and has been appreciating work done in the pharma field since 1965. This recognition is bestowed on her for the remarkable contributions made to the pharmaceutical industry, both in early drug discovery and process development for generics. Dr Prathama ventured into the field of research in 1996 and has worked in various capacities like early drug discovery, expertise in catalysis, organometallic chemistry and organic chemistry. Pharmexcil honours Ajanta Pharma Ltd

Mumbai-based businessmen, Purushottam Agrawal (Founder and Vice-Chirman) and Madhusudan Agrawal (Co-founder) of Ajanta Pharma Ltd, were felicitated by the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) as part of the ‘ Pharma CEOs Conclave’ . Anice Joseph Chandra, Director, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India gave away the honour to the company during ‘12th Annual Meet’ of Pharmexcil. Ajanta Pharma Ltd ., which started operations in 1973 with re-packing of generic products, is one of the leading producers of branded generics and speciality drugs with a turnover of Rs 1,728 crores in the 2015-16. Speaking on the occasion, Purushottam said, “ The Indian Pharma industry’s exports are growing by leaps and bounds and in the coming years, it may become one of the top markets in the world. First India Pharma Awards

The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Ananth Kumar gave away the 1st India Pharma awards in Bengaluru recently. The awards constituted by Department of Pharmaceuticals were given to outstanding Pharma Industries to motivate Indian Pharma and medical devices industries. The winners of the awards are:

Honour for PU emeritus professor

The Association of Pharmacy Professionals has conferred the title of "Eminent Pharmacist 2016" on Panjab University (PU) emeritus professor and former PU dean (university instructions) S K Kulkarni. Prof Kulkarni was honoured during the 5th International Convention held at the Anna University, Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu recently. He is teaching at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS). Professor Kulkarni is a fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), National Academy of Sciences (FNASc) and Indian Pharmaceutical Association (FIPA). A Fulbright visiting scholar of US education foundation, he has been a recipient of several national recognitions including UGC Hari Om Ashram Trust National Award, Ranbaxy Research Foundation Award, Acharya P C Ray gold medal, professor G P Srivastava Memorial National Award, and APTI life-time achievement award, besides others. Goa branch of IPA wins national award

The Goa state branch of the Indian pharmaceutical association (IPA), under the leadership of its president Salim A Veljee, has been awarded the 'Best state branch award 2014' by the Indian pharmaceutical association, central office, Mumbai. In a communication received by the Goa state branch office, dated March 17, 2015, the IPA congratulated the president and members of the Goa state branch for their "excellent performance of the branch activities and the contributions in supporting the objectives of the association conducted in the larger interest of the pharmaceutical field, and in also maintaining high standards in its activities to the profession of pharmacy."
