NIPER Hyderabad delves into role of nano-crystals in formulations development process

In order to have a proper understanding of various formulation procedures for the upcoming pharmacy professionals, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Hyderabad has delved into the role of nano-crystals in the process of formulation development during a workshop hosted at its campus. Experts from various pharmaceutical backgrounds spoke on the topic of nanotechnology, its potentials and pitfalls during the programme.

According to Dr. Nalini Shastri, convener at NIPER Hyderabad, “The main objective of the workshop is to spread knowledge about the emerging trends and opportunities available in market for the pharmaceutical graduates.”

“We organised this workshop keeping in mind the need for up-gradation of knowledge to the professional pharmacists both working in the industry and to the teaching faculty. It is mainly targeted at young pharmacy teachers with a view to give practical tips and hands on training in the area of emerging trends in pharmaceutical sciences”, said Dr. Nalini while commenting on the significance of workshop

Dr. Nalini said that nanotechnology is fast emerging and is going to play an effective role in devising new drugs in the future. In view of this, there is a need to understand about the Nanotechnology, its potential and pitfalls. She explained about the importance of nanocrystals and challenges faced during formulation development. She also laid special emphasis on importance of drug candidate, stabilizer and preparation technique selections for successful formulation development.

Another expert, Dr S Gananadhamu from NIPER Hyderabad delivered on ‘Bioanalytical method development’ wherein he stressed on the sample preparation methods and elaborated on the challenges involved in bioanalysis and validation and column selection criteria in successful method development.

Apart from providing hands on experience to the young pharmacy teachers in the areas of nanotechnology and analytical methodology, experts at the workshop also demonstrated recent developments in analytical equipment, nanotechnology and provide practical exposure through laboratory techniques.

Prof Sanjeeva Reddy, registrar, NIPER Hyderabad, Dr USN Murty, project director, NIPER Hyderabad highlighted the importance of hands on experience in developing and improving skill among the researchers.
