Workshop on ‘Systematic review and meta-analysis in health research’

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Medical Statistics (NIMS) will be organising a workshop on ‘Systematic review and meta-analysis in health research’ (SYSMA-2020) from March 24-27, 2020 in New Delhi.

The workshop will provide an introduction on practical and methodological issues of how to plan, conduct and report the results of a systematic review. The lectures will focus on the essential steps  of systematic review, principles of literature searching, data extraction and critical appraisal of studies.

The discussion will focus on formulating a research question, search strategy for identifying studies, critical appraisal of articles and statistical methods for meta-analysis.

ICMR-NIMS also hosts the Clinical Trials Registry-India (CTRI) with the mandate to encourage all clinical trials conducted in India to be prospectively registered before the enrollment of the first participant.

This workshop is primarily aimed at health professionals and researchers who are planning to conduct a systematic review. Preference would be given to participants who already have a topic in hand.

ICMR, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the largest medical research bodies in the world. The ICMR is funded by the Government of India through the Department of Health Research under the Union health ministry.

The council's research priorities coincide with national health priorities such as control and management of communicable diseases, fertility control, maternal and child health, control of nutritional disorders, developing alternative strategies for health care delivery, containment within safety limits of environmental and occupational health problems, research on major non-communicable diseases like cancer, cardiovascular diseases, blindness, diabetes and other metabolic and haematological disorders; mental health research and drug research (including traditional remedies).
